NOTE: Before you attempt the following, you must back up your registry! Because if you delete things you shouldn't, you'll be in a much bigger mess than you are at present. Backup the registry by clicking the first word in 2K it is Registry but I know it is not that word in XP - it might be file and select Export registry.
That will backup your registry. Put it on your desktop so you can find it if you need it. It will stop when it finds a registry entry which, if quicktime, you'll chose to delete. I did a full system backup onto my work server. I reinstalled the backup today but when I tried to open itunes I got an error message asking to send an error message to Microsoft. I have been on the itunes website and have uninstalled and then reinstalled itunes v8. It still wouldn't load.
After reading the trouble shooting it suggested to uninstall itunes followed by quicktime. I have been able to uninstall the itunes but cannot get rid of quicktime.
Every time I try to remove it through the control panel it tells me it cannot install due to a fatal error.
